Summer Heat Alert: How to Keep Your Drives Running During Peak Production
With the current heatwave in full swing, it’s not just people who are feeling the pressure – your production equipment is, too. High temperatures and increased production loads can push your drive systems and power electronics to the limit. Now is the time to take preventive action and avoid costly downtime.
Power electronics naturally generate heat. When the ambient temperature rises and your machines run at full capacity, heat-related failures become a serious risk – unless you prepare in advance.
Our Key Summer Maintenance Tips for Drive Systems:
- Check all fans for proper operation
Inspect all cooling fans for function, unusual noises, and signs of wear or blockage. A faulty fan is a common cause of temperature alarms and drive failures.
- Clean intake and exhaust vents on control cabinets
Dust and debris can obstruct airflow. Thoroughly clean ventilation slits. Open the cabinet door and inspect the interior for dust, insects, oil mist, or contamination.
- Measure internal cabinet temperatures
Use a basic thermometer or temperature sensor to check for heat build-up. Temperatures above 40–45 °C inside the cabinet can damage sensitive components.
- Use thermal imaging
A thermographic scan can identify hot spots – including overheating modules, non-functioning fans, or poor heat dissipation – before they cause damage.
- Stock critical spare parts
For key machines, consider keeping a spare drive or motor on hand. Or talk to us – we can help you find genuine-quality replacement parts with short delivery times.
- Replace fans and thermal pads preventively
Aged thermal materials and worn-out fans reduce cooling efficiency. Preventive maintenance significantly improves system reliability.
Our advice:
Preventive care ensures uninterrupted production and avoids costly breakdowns – especially during hot summer months.
